Traveling Through Nebraska: Route 66 Automobile Museum
Situated in 2225 South Locust Street, Roswell, New Mexico was not the original intention for this magnificent collection of road trip memorabilia but is now set to officially reopen in Roswell due to logistical and environmental reasons that could not take place in Kearney, Nebraska after years in planning. The Route 66 Automobile Museum was announced to the public in 2011. Named after the iconic cross-country highway reaching across the heart of the United States from Illinois to California, stopping at hundreds of quaint and nostalgic towns along the 2,448 miles route, mainly passing through an abundant amount of miles through the Great Plains where the state of Nebraska holds a strategic piece of this nostalgic American Road.
After leaving its previous planning stage intended for the Nebraska location, and several donations, owners agreed to transport the nostalgic collection approximately 624 miles directly to a southern New Mexican city known for alleged UFO sightings by countless locals who have resided locally their whole lives in Roswell, New Mexico on South Locust Street, the project involved acquiring more memorabilia of classic cars and transforming that city into the new main Route 66 auto museum display destination with exhibits showcasing numerous vehicles associated with the era as far back as the '20s.
Travelers to Roswell find themselves immersed in the art of classic automotive design. Visitors to the venue see the incredibly eccentric automotive history represented within the exhibit halls that contain the remnants of the first era, Route 66, that will no doubt open a thrilling discussion and raise awareness about the history, the milestones reached, the personal and collective endeavors which turned this museum into one that holds an art-filled, motor-driven, and rich journey through America's iconic nostalgic highway.
Inside the auto museum visitors see full exhibits with their original artifacts with remnants dating back generations including the '37 Cord 812SC Phaeton, '69 COPO Camaro, and a customized version of Elvis's Pink Cadillac to take note of but a few that the visitor has a good chance of viewing with other cherished collectible content being considered for future presentation. As those visiting begin to leave after a day exploring, some may perhaps capture an idea as to the nature that made Route 66 be what made it an important moment for a movement.
Guests visiting this memorable museum site often make note of some popular surrounding landmarks like the Blue Hole and various ghost towns with evidence that showcases the historical relevance they would encounter during their day-long visits. Ultimately, with countless sites along the road it does exist in its preserved nostalgia when speaking of an automobile age as beautiful as the age presented here.
As you walk through the main exhibits you grasp an image that many may say in great wonder that this collection with the addition of several memorabilia of Route 66 like "The Cozy Dog Drive" is not only art, but an extraordinary collection because the autos, memorabilia, it is an art that is based on passion, and their passion displays the wonderful accomplishments made to make an exquisite experience not simply of sight, but of nostalgia and journey along one of America's favorite historical highways.
After years in the making, and numerous setbacks at the planned Kearney destination the collection was then set to revivify and hold its newfound museum location taking place in Roswell.
